The Montreal Canadiens announced on Thursday roughly two hours before puck drop that the team would be playing in front of an empty Bell Centre due to a spiraling rise of COVID-19 cases in Quebec.
According to the team, Quebec's public health officials had requested that no fans attend the game to help control the outbreak.
Cole Caufield's father seemed to be disappointed with how the team handled the situation in a post on Twitter shortly after the announcement.
He explained how he and many people have a double vaccine as well as a booster shot and receive PCR tests in accordance with the protocols. On top of this, Paul Caufield had to travel through customs, he wore a mask, and showed no symptoms. All this, to just not be able to watch his son play.
He did crack a joke at the end of the tweet saying, «Hope they let a camera in so I can watch on TV while I am in Canada.»
The rising troubles of COVID-19 is frustrating for teams, fans, and players alike, but hopefully it gets under control sooner rather than later.
