The immediate aftermath didn't look good at all. Earlier Sunday, Dmitry Voronkov, a draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets, was taken from a game on a stretcher has sent to hospital after a massive hit from Pyotr Khokhryakov. Khokhryakov was given a five minute major and ejected from the game between Salavat Yulaev and Kazan Ak-Bars.

Voronkov, 21, has since been released from hospital and made a statement in his current condition, which his team released through social media.
"Thank you all for your support. I feel fine," said Voronkov. "I was released from the hospital. I will be recovering under the supervision of doctors in the club. I can't see with my left eye yet, but I hope to return to the ice as soon as possible."
