The NHL's Department of Player Safety announced on Saturday morning that they've fined New York Rangers forward Artemi Panarin $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct against Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand.

Late in the third period, while both Panarin and Marchand on their respective benches, the pair got into an argument that saw Panarin throw his glove at Marchand. Both players were sent to their locker rooms and received ten minute misconducts.

Sources told Arthur Staple of The Athletic that Marchand was making comments about Russia and Vladimir Putin towards Panarin. For those who may have forgotten, Panarin took a leave of absence from the Rangers last season following a tabloid in Russia posting a story that he attacked a woman in his home country nearly a decade ago. That post from the tabloid came days after Panarin made an Instagram post showing his support for Putin's political rival, Alexei Navalny.

Panarin, 30, has 21 points (5 G, 16 A), twelve penalty minutes, and is a plus-four in twenty games for the Rangers this season.
