I'm not sure what it is with slewfoots this season, but there seem to be a lot of them in the NHL. The latest came from Ryan Hartman of the Minnesota Wild, who put a blatant slewfoot on Ross Colton of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. He would receive just a two-minute minor for tripping.
Ryan Hartman gets 2 minutes for tripping after a slew foot on Ross Colton. Would imagine a fine is on the way. #MNWild #GoBolts pic.twitter.com/Z1pjldJV3y— NHL News (@PuckReportNHL) November 21, 2021
As mentioned in the Tweet, you have to think there's at least a supplemental fine coming for this one. That said, as mentioned by The Athletic's Michael Russo, it does appear that Hartman, at the last second, realizes what he's done and attempts to catch Colton, or at least slow down his fall. Whether that will be enough for the NHL's Department of Player Safety remains to be seen.
What may save Hartman from getting dinged by the league is he seems to realize what he did and holds him from something dangerous. We'll find out tomorrow https://t.co/lGGRZICtFd— Michael Russo (@RussoHockey) November 21, 2021
