The Montreal Canadiens announced on Wednesday night that they've recalled forward Ryan Poehling and defenceman Mattias Norlinder from the American Hockey League's Laval Rocket.
Poehling, 22, has been off to a great start to his season in Laval. In seven games with the Rocket, the Lakeville, Minnesota native has six points (three goals, three assists), zero penalty minutes, and is a minus-three. He hasn't appeared in an NHL game for the Canadiens since the 2019-20 season.
Poehling has already been slotted in on the fourth line, taking over Paquette's spot. Paquette appears to be dealing with a minor injury.
As for Mattias Norlinder, his AHL conditioning stint was up after Laval's 3-0 win tonight over the Belleville Senators. The Kramfors, Sweden native appeared in three games for the Laval Rocket during his conditioning stint, but struggled quite a bit and is still adjusting to the North American sized ice. He failed to record a point in those three games and was a minus-two.
Norlinder will be making his NHL debut very soon. Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme announced earlier this week that he'll get into a handful of games before the coaching staff and management decide whether he'll remain in Montreal for the rest of the season, or return to Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League.
Montreal will be back in action on Thursday night when they welcome the Calgary Flames to the Bell Centre. Puck drop is set for 7pm ET on TSN2 and RDS.
