Police in Russia are investigating the sudden death of a 24-year-old hockey player in Moscow. According to reports out of Russia, Ivan Bitkin died after falling out of a window of a home in Moscow either late October 28th or early morning October 29th. He was dead when an ambulance arrived on the scene.
Bitkin was drafted to the KHL, but had played in the VHL for the last few years. The VHL is the second highest tier of professional hockey in Russia and serves as a farm system for the KHL, much like the AHL to the NHL.
One report quotes an unidentified friend of Bitkin as saying the young man was dealing with heavy financial problems.
"He had financial problems, I don't know why. For at least six months, he had borrowed money from everyone. At least I tried. I don't know what exactly happened to him. Maybe I contacted the wrong company or worse, I have no idea. But the fact that he deceived his friends, trying to borrow money, and did not give, was such a sin with him."
