PlayNow Sports just flagged a wiped-out Liam Ohgren goal as the Canucks and Ducks play tonight in Vancouver.
The game is live, in the second period, so there is no final score to report. But this call is already the talk of the night, because it cost the Canucks a goal they badly needed.
PlayNow Sports wrote that Ohgren's second goal of the night was taken away for a soft hooking call, and that the Ducks then scored on the power play.

That's a double hit. You lose the goal, and then you watch the other bench cash in on the penalty that erased it.
Vancouver can't afford swings like that. The Canucks sit 32nd in the NHL at 3-12-1, with a 1-8-1 record over their last 10.

Ohgren is one of the few bright spots on a roster that has struggled to score. His season line reads 4 goals and 3 assists in 15 games, and he's a 22-year-old who went 19th overall to the Minnesota Wild in 2022.

Over his NHL career he has 15 goals in 112 games, so a two-goal night would have stood out. That's why a hooking whistle on a play like this stings more than usual.
Why one whistle matters so much to Vancouver
The Canucks are 1-6-0 at home and have allowed 72 goals against this season, against 47 scored. A team in that spot doesn't get many breaks, and it certainly doesn't get to give away power-play chances on borderline calls.
The call was soft, and a goal that clean should have counted. Officials are allowed to call hooking, but wiping out a goal for a penalty that light is a bad look for the league, and the Canucks are the team paying for it.
Anaheim has its own problems at 6-7-1 and 25th in the NHL. The Ducks beat Ottawa 6-3 on Sunday, and a power-play goal like this one is exactly what a team that is 3-6-1 over its last 10 needs.
Both teams are back at it on Thursday, November 5. The Canucks visit the Jets in Winnipeg, and the Ducks head to Edmonton.
Should the officials have let Liam Ohgren's goal stand over a soft hooking call?
