Nikita Kucherov's trade request now has a key detail attached, and it affects every team hoping to land him.
According to Pierre LeBrun, Kucherov does not have a full no-trade clause. It's a modified no-trade, with a list of 10 approved destinations.
That matters because the Lightning are not dealing with a closed door. They have a defined set of partners, and the winger's camp holds the veto over everyone else.
The news broke Friday, when Sportsnet reported that the Tampa Bay star told the club he won't re-sign and wants out. You can read our Nikita Kucherov trade request and re-sign refusal report for the first details.
He is 33 and in the final season of his current deal, which runs through 2026-27 with UFA status at expiry. No extension has been signed.
Kucherov's on-ice production hasn't dipped. He has 15 points in 12 games this season, with 4 goals and 11 assists, and he added an assist in Thursday night's 6-4 win over the Jets.
Which 10 teams make the cut for Kucherov?
The list itself is the open question. LeBrun's post says nothing about which clubs are on it, and nobody outside the player's camp and the Lightning can name them with confidence.
Whoever is on it, the market for a player this productive will be thin on paper and heavy on pressure. A short list gives Kucherov leverage over where he lands, and it limits how much competition Tampa Bay can create.
LeBrun pointed out that Kucherov doesn't have a full no-trade, only a modified one with a 10-team list of approved destinations.

The production backs up why this is such a big story. He has 1138 career regular-season points over 891 games, along with 177 points in 159 playoff games.
| GP | G | A | PTS | +/- | |
| 2026-27 | 12 | 4 | 11 | 15 | +2 |
| Career | 891 | 404 | 734 | 1138 | +202 |
That résumé is exactly why the Lightning can't simply move him for whatever is offered. A star of this caliber on an expiring deal who has already said he's leaving puts Tampa Bay in a tough negotiating spot, and the 10-team list narrows it further.
The next piece of news to watch is the list itself, because it determines who can realistically make an offer.
Should the Lightning trade Kucherov only to a team on his 10-team list?
