Luke Schenn holds a full no-movement clause, but he'd reportedly be open to a move to a Stanley Cup contender, per The Fourth Period.

The Canucks are playing in San Jose as this goes up, late in the third period with 1:22 left on the clock. The Fourth Period's report landed right in the middle of another bad week in Vancouver.

The standings explain the noise. The Canucks sit at 3-10-1, and their last 10 reads 1-8-1.

Schenn's own numbers aren't helping his market. The defenseman has 9 games played this season with no goals, 2 assists and a -4 rating.

He has also piled up 23 penalty minutes, which fits the identity but not the box score.

The contract matters here. Schenn carries a cap hit of $2,250,000 and is a UFA at expiry, so any buyer would be renting him, not inheriting a long commitment.

He was one of four veterans general manager Ryan Johnson is open to trading, according to The Fourth Period. The difference now is that the player is reportedly receptive too.

Why a Schenn trade could be the easiest sell for Vancouver

NHL Rumour Report passed along the most telling detail: the clause is not expected to be the sticking point if the right contender calls.

The résumé is long. Schenn has 1,131 regular-season games behind him and another 60 in the playoffs, and the Maple Leafs drafted him fifth overall in 2008.

Contenders always shop for that kind of defenseman around the deadline. Few of them would pay for one with a -4 rating, though, so the price will tell us how much the reputation is worth.

Vancouver should still listen. A team 3-10-1 with a veteran who has no points to his name beyond two assists and an open door should be moving him early, not waiting for February.

Next up is a home date with Toronto on Saturday, October 31. Whether Schenn is still in the lineup after that, and whether anyone is calling, is the open question.
