During the offseason, the Islanders got rid of Nick Leddy, sending him to the Detroit Red Wings rather than losing him in the expansion draft. The team then decided to bring in a veteran presence by signing Zdeno Chara, but now Islanders general manager could have his eye on Anaheim Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm.

Chara definitely brings experience to the blueline, but he is not nearly as skilled with the puck as Leddy was. That alone could become an issue as the season wears on.

Elliotte Friedman stated that Lindholm, Getzlaf, Josh Manson, and Rickard Rakell are all going to become unrestricted free agents this summer, and there has not been any rumors of contract talks. This will likely mean that teams will be calling on these players in order to improve their rosters.

Arthur Staple of The Athletic thinks that Lindholm was one of the defenseman that Lamoriello called on during the offseason. Along with this, it seems that there still could be interest from the Isles GM. The trade could cost the team its first-round pick to offer more than other teams if the defenseman is available at or before the trade deadline, but it seems that he could fit very nicely with the team.
