David Perron is set to join the Dallas Stars, according to Elliotte Friedman, and it will be his 20th NHL season.

Friedman called it pretty impressive stuff, and the numbers back him up.

Perron has played 1,239 regular-season NHL games, according to HockeyDB.

He has 812 points over that span, including 332 goals.

Last season, he split time between Ottawa and Detroit, finishing with 13 goals across both stops.

This is exactly the kind of cheap, low-risk depth move a contender should make in October.

Signing a 38-year-old with that résumé is like hiring a retired chef to help out in a busy kitchen. He might not work every station, but he knows where everything is.

Dallas needs goals, and Perron has 332 of them on his résumé

He also won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis, the team that drafted him in the first round.

Dallas becomes his eighth NHL team, after stops in St. Louis, Edmonton, Pittsburgh, Anaheim, Vegas, Detroit and Ottawa.

He has 64 playoff points in 110 postseason games, per HockeyDB.

The Stars are 3-3-1 and have scored just 16 goals.

They've allowed only 13, so the problem is clearly at the other end of the ice.

Mikko Rantanen leads Dallas with 7 points, and Jason Robertson has 5.

Roope Hintz has 4 points, including a power-play goal.

Wyatt Johnston is day-to-day with an illness, and Oskar Back is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Dallas also placed Harrison Scott on waivers earlier this week.

Perron's last deal carried a $4,000,000 cap hit, according to HockeyDB.

Jim Nill gets a veteran who has seen just about everything over 19 seasons.

The Stars just split a home-and-home with Colorado, winning Wednesday's rematch in a shootout.

How much does a 38-year-old have left, and does Glen Gulutzan hand him a top-six role or a depth job?

Dallas visits Chicago on Saturday and hosts Boston on Tuesday, so the debut could come soon.

Twenty seasons is rare air. His next challenge is making sure the 20th actually moves the needle in Dallas.
