The Flames have kept tabs on Kirby Dach, according to Frank Seravalli, and one fan-built mock trade already has him heading to Calgary.
Seravalli said on Sportsnet on Oct. 7 that Edmonton's interest in the Canadiens forward had been reported, and that Calgary has been watching too.
IceMetrix then floated a deal sending Dach, a 2027 second-round pick and a 2028 third-rounder to Calgary for defenseman Zach Whitecloud.
The idea isn't pulled out of thin air. David Pagnotta has reported that Montreal had Whitecloud in its sights last year, according to Marqueur.
Montreal says no to this one, and quickly. The defenseman has no points and a -6 rating on a $2,750,000 cap hit.
Adding a pick to that swap is like paying someone to haul away your old couch and then buying theirs for full price.
Dach has one assist on a $3,600,000 cap hit, and he's sitting at -2.

Seravalli also reported that several teams offered a second-round pick for Dach in June, but Montreal wanted immediate help back.
So why would the Canadiens now attach a second-rounder just to move him?
Calgary is 0-5-0 after Saturday's 4-2 home loss to Anaheim.
The Flames have allowed 27 goals and scored just 8.
Ryan Huska is still searching for his first win of the season.
Zayne Parekh sits at -10 and Simon Nemec at -7, so Calgary's blue line has bigger problems than one defenseman.
Montreal is 2-2-1 after Saturday's shootout win over Detroit, and Jayden Struble was just traded to Nashville.

Who says no? Montreal does. The more interesting question is whether Calgary's interest ever turns into a real offer.
