Stefan Noesen cleared waivers today, and the Devils forward had plenty of company, according to Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman reported that everyone placed on waivers Thursday cleared, a group that included Stillman of the Red Wings.

The new name on the wire is Solovyov, placed on waivers by Pittsburgh today.

Noesen had dressed for 2 games without a point, sitting at a -2 rating.

His $2,750,000 cap hit at 33 years old was always going to make teams think twice.

Montreal had been floated as a possible landing spot, but nobody put in a claim.

Passing was the right call for Kent Hughes. A depth forward doesn't fix a team giving up 4.8 goals a game.

Kyle Dubas puts Solovyov on the wire with the Penguins' blue line crowded

Waivers in October work like a garage sale on the first warm Saturday of spring. Everybody browses, a few people pick things up, and most of it goes back in the garage.

Six Pittsburgh defensemen have dressed for all four games, so there was no obvious opening on the back end.

Erik Karlsson has 4 assists on an $11,500,000 cap hit.

Declan Carlile has chipped in 2 goals on a $1,500,000 deal, which makes him tough to bump out of the lineup.

The Penguins are 2-2-0 after back-to-back losses, and they visit Columbus tonight before hosting Dallas on Saturday.

Pittsburgh has scored 18 goals but allowed 13, and that second number is the one Dan Muse will lose sleep over.

So does anybody bite on Solovyov? Teams scanning the wire for help on the back end will at least take a look.

Detroit has more pressing holes than most. Marco Kasper, J.T. Compher and Mason Appleton are all on the injury list.

The Red Wings host Seattle tonight and then visit Montreal on Saturday, the back half of a back-to-back.

New Jersey, meanwhile, sits at 1-2-0 and has been outscored 13-6.

Sheldon Keefe's group hosts Vancouver on Saturday afternoon, and Noesen's next step hasn't been made public.

Thursday's entire group went unclaimed. Will Solovyov be the one somebody finally takes a chance on?
