Player "crushed" by Maple Leafs-Blue Jackets trade involving Kirill Marchenko

Matthew Knies is leaving Jim Hiller's Maple Leafs, and the stunning trade to Columbus reportedly hit the winger hard.

Toronto has traded Knies to the Blue Jackets in a blockbuster package built around Kirill Marchenko, ending Knies' run with the organization just before the regular season begins.

The deal sends Knies, Steven Lorentz, Emil Andrae and a 2027 second-round pick to Columbus. Toronto receives Marchenko, Elvis Merzlikins and Miles Wood.
