Kirill Marchenko is suddenly at the center of Toronto, with Jim Hiller potentially getting a major new weapon for his Maple Leafs lineup.

For the Maple Leafs, the attraction is obvious. Marchenko brings another dangerous winger into a forward group that could use another finisher capable of pushing his way into Hiller's top six.

Marchenko could change Hiller's top six

That could create a ripple effect throughout the lineup. Another scoring winger gives the coaching staff more freedom to spread offense across multiple lines instead of leaning so heavily on the same combinations.

It also raises the ceiling of Toronto's attack. The Maple Leafs aren't discussing this kind of move simply to shuffle their bottom six before the season gets rolling.

The pressure now shifts toward the trade package. Columbus has little reason to hand over a player of Marchenko's profile without getting assets that fit its own direction.

That's why calling it a steal depends entirely on the final cost. If Toronto keeps its most valuable roster pieces out of the deal, this could become one of those trades that changes how its forward group looks immediately.

For Hiller, that would mean another offensive option arriving before the regular-season grind begins. For Toronto's front office, it would signal an aggressive push to strengthen the roster rather than wait for another opportunity.
