The British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) made history on Sunday night, as they had the first ever all-female officiating crew in a Canadian Jr A game.

The four females to officiate the game were Colleen Geddes, Megan Howes, Grace Barlow and Melissa Brunn. This comes just a week after it was announced that there will be female officiating at the American Hockey League at some point this season, and could be some in the NHL in the next few years. It is fantastic that these talented women are finally getting their chance to shine.

«Being on an all-female crew is both exciting and comfortable,» Barlow said. «These women beside me have been my friends, as well as my colleagues, for years. Getting the opportunity to make history with them is an honour. I hope other young women can watch this game and know that all aspects of hockey are for everyone.»

The game took place between the Langley Riverman and the Surrey Eagles, with the Eagles winning 4-3 in a shootout.
