But the timing stings a little. Guhle played just 39 games last season, a number that jumps out against an 82-game slate.

Guhle carries a $5,550,000 cap hit for Montreal, money the Canadiens committed to a player they see as a top-pairing piece on the blue line.

Kent Hughes built this defense group around him. Losing him for any real stretch, even in September, changes how that group looks on paper.
