Scheifele could be next Jets star out the door after Hellebuyck

Connor Hellebuyck's trade request is barely a day old, and the speculation around Mark Scheifele is already spreading way past Edmonton.

Bleed Oil Blue floated the idea Thursday morning that Scheifele could be next out the door for the Jets.

"With Connor Hellebuyck moving on, is Mark Scheifele NEXT out of Winnipeg?" the post asked. "I think he could be gone by the trade deadline."

"And yes, I'd LOVE Scheifele on the Oilers," the post added, tagging Jets fans directly.

But Edmonton isn't the only name fans are floating anymore. Chatter has started connecting Scheifele to Chicago, Washington, Dallas, New Jersey, the Rangers and Seattle as well.

None of that is confirmed by either side. This is fan speculation building on top of one goaltender's trade request, nothing more concrete than that right now.

Chatter has started connecting Scheifele to Dallas, Seattle, Boston, Edmonton, Chicago, New Jersey and the Rangers as well.

Teams thin down the middle would obviously covet a center this productive. That's true whether it's Edmonton chasing a second line behind Leon Draisaitl, Seattle looking to bolster their top six, or any other contender looking to upgrade.

For now, this stays speculation stacking on speculation, fans across seven fan bases wishcasting a superstar center while Winnipeg's actual goaltender situation still plays out.

Scheifele posted 103 points in 82 games this season, with 36 goals and 67 assists. That kind of production explains why so many fan bases are suddenly interested.

He was even sharper down the stretch, 15 points over his final ten games, including 13 assists, at 33 years old and showing no signs of decline.

Teams thin down the middle would obviously covet a center this productive. That's true whether it's Edmonton chasing a second line behind Leon Draisaitl or any other contender looking to upgrade.

Scheifele carries an $8,500,000 cap hit, a number that limits which of these speculated teams could realistically fit him in without real cap gymnastics first.

Winnipeg finished last season 35-35-12, a rough campaign that already has fans questioning direction before a second star trade request even becomes real.

Kevin Cheveldayoff hasn't given any indication Scheifele is available. One trade request from a goaltender doesn't automatically mean the core gets blown up next.
