Jonathan Toews might get to end his career the way he started it, wearing the Indian head sweater in Chicago.
Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson confirmed Tuesday the team would be open to a one-day contract that lets Toews retire as a member of the organization.
"Nothing is set in stone or anything, but I think it's likely we'll go down that path," Davidson said, according to TSN.
That's about as close to a formal answer as you'll get from a front office on something this sentimental.
Toews hasn't played in a Chicago jersey in years, but his name still carries weight in that city. Three Stanley Cups will do that.
A ceremonial contract wouldn't change any cap numbers or affect the current roster. It's paperwork with a purpose, not a hockey move.
But it would close the book properly on one of the most decorated careers a Blackhawks captain has ever had.

The Blackhawks are living in a very different reality than the one Toews left behind. Chicago sits at 29-39-14 this season, good for 72 points and 31st overall in the league.
They've dropped to 2-7-1 over their last 10 games, even with a win streak currently sitting at one.
Jeff Blashill is running the bench now, hired back in May of 2025, tasked with steering a young core through some rough stretches.
None of that has anything to do with Toews. And that's kind of the point.
A one-day deal isn't about wins and losses. It's about a franchise pausing its rebuild for a single afternoon to say thank you to the guy who helped end a 49-year Cup drought.
Compare it to a band doing one final reunion show before disbanding for good. No new music, no tour, just a proper goodbye.
Davidson didn't put a date on any of this. No contract has been signed. No press conference has been scheduled.
But the door is open now, publicly, on the record. And in a market like Chicago, that kind of statement doesn't get walked back easily.
The question now is timing. Does this happen before next season starts, or does the organization wait for a moment with more weight behind it?
