Patrick Kane's decision on where to sign just got a direct, warm response from Chicago Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson.
Davidson appeared on OverDrive on TSN 1050 earlier this week and was asked directly about a possible Kane reunion.
"We'll await his decision, but he knows our door is always open. We've got a great deal of reverence, respect, and love for Patrick Kane," Davidson said.
It now appears obvious that Chicago would gladly welcome Kane back into the organization.
That is about as warm a public statement as a general manager can make without actually confirming a formal contract offer is on the table.
Kane's markets have reportedly narrowed down to Buffalo and Chicago, according to earlier reporting, even after Toronto and Colorado were floated as options.
Kane closed this past season with 16 goals, 41 assists and 57 points over 67 games in Detroit, good for a 0.85 points-per-game rate.

That kind of record puts real pressure on any offseason move, and a name like Kane's would carry outsized attention no matter what role he actually plays.
Connor Bedard remains the actual centerpiece in Chicago, having just signed his own five-year, $15 million extension this summer.
Kane would likely arrive as a complementary scoring piece rather than a first-line fixture, similar to the framing already floated around his Buffalo option.
Head coach Jeff Blashill is working through his own rebuild timeline, and a veteran like Kane could offer real mentorship value regardless of his actual ice time.
