Scott White is the name gaining traction for the Detroit Red Wings' vacant general manager job, according to a new report.

The Grind Line Podcast identified White as their clear front-runner this week, following Detroit's confirmation that Steve Yzerman is no longer running the front office.

Yzerman had held the job since 2019, building the roster Detroit iced this past season under head coach Todd McLellan.

White's resume reads like a natural fit. He has served as Dallas' assistant general manager since 2013.

He has also run the Texas Stars, Dallas' AHL affiliate, since 2009, giving him nearly two decades of continuity inside one organization.

Dallas GM Jim Nill reportedly calls White his right-hand man, a level of trust that carries real weight in a search like this one.

Dallas has been one of the league's most stable organizations for years, and White has been part of that stability the entire time.

Brendan Shanahan is also in the mix for the job

Brendan Shanahan's name has also surfaced as a candidate, according to separate reporting on the search.

Detroit finished last season 41-31-10 for 92 points and 16th overall, missing the playoffs in the process.

Dallas, by comparison, closed the year 50-20-12 for 112 points and third overall, exactly the kind of results Detroit is hoping to import.

Whoever gets the job inherits a roster still shaped by Yzerman's moves, including a Dylan Larkin trade request that has already complicated the summer.

Larkin posted 34 goals and 67 points this past season, and resolving his situation will likely be the new GM's very first order of business.

The full breakdown, including how the podcast is ranking the rest of the candidate pool, is worth a look.

No hire is official yet, and Detroit still has more than one name to sort through before this search actually ends.
