Connor Bedard's shoulder surgery has the Chicago Blackhawks bracing for a recovery timeline that already has outside doctors pushing back.

The team announced this morning that he underwent successful surgery to repair his left shoulder, with an expected recovery of four months.

Dr. Harjas Grewal isn't fully buying that number. He believes the 20-year-old likely dislocated the shoulder in a video that circulated last week, pointing toward a labral repair.

"Some might say four months is a tad optimistic," Grewal wrote, adding that a labral tear like this can sometimes stretch closer to five or six months.

Bedard closed the season with 30 goals and 45 assists for 75 points across 69 games, numbers that make the injury sting even more.

He also chipped in seven power play goals and 14 power play assists, proof he stayed useful on the man advantage even in a rough stretch.

His production had cooled by the end of the year. Over his final 10 games, he managed just 8 points and no goals, going minus-14 in that stretch.

Four months or six, the number now shapes Chicago's whole offseason

A four-month recovery from a July surgery points toward a return somewhere around training camp. A six-month recovery pushes that deep into the regular season instead.

Chicago finished 29-39-14 for 72 points, ranked 31st overall, and general manager Kyle Davidson doesn't have the luxury of an easy fix on a roster already stretched thin.

Bedard carries a cap hit of just $950,000 into a season the Blackhawks need him healthy for, especially after finishing eighth in their own division.

Ever trust a recovery date before rehab even begins? Promising four months right now is a bit like quoting a paint job before anyone's popped the hood.

Grewal's read isn't official medical information. It's outside speculation from a shoulder specialist watching the same footage as everyone else, and it's already spreading fast.

Nobody in Chicago knows the real number yet. Every outside estimate between now and training camp will only add more weight to whatever date Bedard actually returns.
