There's a real case for it. Agents understand how young players grow, the deal costs little, and Vancouver's pipeline is the whole ballgame now with seven players aged 23 or younger.

But there's a fine line, and that's the fan's actual fear. Innovative and thrifty is one thing. Cheap and rudderless is another. From the outside, they can look identical.

Here's my read: the worry is legitimate. A team that lost 49 games and scored just 216 goals hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt on anything, including who it puts in charge.

It's like a struggling restaurant hiring its whole kitchen on bargain rates. Maybe you found hidden talent. Maybe you just got cheap. The diners can't tell until the food comes out.

Ownership now has to prove this is strategy, not penny-pinching dressed up as vision. The young core they're banking on deserves real development muscle behind it.

If the kids take a step next season, nobody remembers this criticism. If they stall, the questions about ownership only get louder.
