The Stanley Cup Final is tied 1-1, and Vegas left Carolina convinced it should be heading home up two games to none.
Here's the sequence. Barbashev appears to make contact with Frederik Andersen's glove in the crease. The glove covers the puck.
Then the puck slides loose and crosses the line at almost the exact moment the whistle blows. No goal on the ice. The call stood.
That last part is the killer. Once a referee rules he intended to blow the play dead, the puck can sit in the back of the net all night. It doesn't count.
The clip shows it all, Barbashev jamming at the crease, the glove sliding back, and the puck trickling across as the whistle screams over the crowd.

Frank Seravalli dropped the number that explains everything. Last season, the league upheld the original call 96 percent of the time when the on-ice ruling was no-goal.
His point was blunt: the burden of proof to overturn a no-goal is enormous, and he wants to hear how Vegas talked itself into challenging anyway.
-
He's right to ask. Challenging a no-goal in this league is like appealing a parking ticket to the officer who wrote it. You already know how it ends.
And the player involved makes it sting more. Barbashev has been one of Vegas's best forwards this spring, with 6 goals and 13 points through 17 playoff games.
Meanwhile, Andersen keeps slamming the door. The 36-year-old is carrying a .920 save percentage and 3 shutouts this postseason. Every goal against him is precious. Vegas just had one erased.
Was there a push on the glove? Maybe. Did the puck cross before the whistle? It sure looks close.

Vegas lost Game 2 in overtime, and the series now sits tied 1-1. John Tortorella's failed challenge handed Carolina a power play, and the Hurricanes cashed it in.
How the Golden Knights respond to getting one taken off the board will tell us everything about this series.
See you in Vegas!
