Nikolaj Ehlers and Rod Brind'Amour are heading into Game 2 with Carolina refusing to blink after a brutal Game 1 loss.

That is the first real story of this Final.

The Hurricanes dropped Game 1 at home, gave up 5 goals for the first time in weeks, and watched Vegas steal home ice in a series that already felt tight.

Brind'Amour still is not reaching for the blender.

According to the report, Carolina is expected to dress the same lineup and use the same combinations it used in Game 1.

That is a coaching decision with teeth.

Because when a team loses 5-4 at home in the Stanley Cup Final, the easy move is to shuffle lines, change a pair, or send a little message.

Carolina is not doing that.

That is the clearest read here.

The Hurricanes jumped out 2-0 in Game 1, with Ehlers scoring twice, including one just 25 seconds into the game. That start should have put Carolina in control.

Instead, the Golden Knights pushed back and never looked rattled.

That is why sticking with the same group says plenty.

Brind'Amour clearly believes the lineup gave him enough to win and that the breakdown came later, in the details, once Vegas started rolling through the middle of the game.

That puts pressure right back on Carolina's core.

Ehlers has to keep driving.

Seth Jarvis has to finish.

Jordan Staal has to settle the group when the game gets messy.

The Hurricanes cannot hide behind tactics now.

On the Vegas side, John Tortorella said everyone from Game 1 is available for Game 2, but he did not announce any lineup changes. That keeps the pressure squarely on Carolina, because Vegas already has the lead and does not need to chase anything.

And the history around this spot is ugly.

The report notes that teams winning Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final go on to win the Cup more than three-quarters of the time.

So yes, Game 2 is already massive.

Carolina does not only need a better defensive effort. It needs proof that the same lineup can answer after getting punched in its own building.

Brind'Amour made his choice.

No panic.

No reshuffle.

No excuses.

Now his team has to justify it before this series starts feeling a lot bigger than one bad night.
