Sebastian Aho and Rod Brind'Amour made it clear in Game 4 that Cole Caufield is getting under Carolina's skin.

That was the real development from the latest flashpoint in this series, not just another penalty or another whistle. Aho went straight at Caufield in front of the referee, and the message was blunt.

The exchange came after Caufield drew an obstruction call on Jalen Chatfield. Right away, Aho jumped in and accused the Canadiens winger of selling it to get the penalty.

That matters because it shows where Carolina's headspace is right now. The Hurricanes weren't just upset with the call. They were frustrated enough to make Caufield the target in the middle of the sequence.

From Montreal's side, that's not a bad sign at all. When a top Carolina forward is barking at Caufield instead of resetting for the next shift, the Canadiens have created pressure that goes beyond the scoreboard.

And on this play, the key detail is simple: Caufield forced the issue and got the call. Whether Carolina liked it or not, the whistle went Montreal's way.

Carolina's frustration just gave Montreal more fuel

That's why this moment can carry into the next game. Playoff series swing on talent, structure, and special teams, but they also swing on irritation, and Caufield clearly has Carolina leaning that way.

It also adds another layer to Caufield's night. He wasn't only trying to create offense. He was drawing attention, drawing emotion, and dragging one of Carolina's top players into a side battle.

For Brind'Amour's group, that's a line they have to watch. The Hurricanes won Game 4 by a 4-0 score, but frustration still bubbled up around one of Montreal's most dangerous shooters.

For Martin St-Louis, there's a clean takeaway here. Keep Caufield in attack mode, keep forcing defenders into bad spots, and make Carolina defend without losing its shape.

This series now has a sharper edge, and Caufield is right in the middle of it. That kind of heat can turn one rush, one power play, or one rebound into the moment that changes everything.

Game 5 is set for Friday night at 8 p.m., and after Aho's outburst, Caufield won't need any extra reason to be ready for puck drop.
