Jesper Wallstedt and Stan Bowman suddenly make a lot of sense in the same Edmonton sentence. Wallstedt is 23, and Bowman is staring at a crease that clearly did not hold up.

The rumor angle is simple. After talk that Minnesota could be open to moving Wallstedt, the Oilers are the team people instantly connect to him.

That is not hard to understand. Edmonton just watched its season end in Round 1, and the goaltending line was ugly. Connor Ingram posted an .876 save percentage in 5 playoff starts, while Tristan Jarry had an .895 mark in his lone start.

When your stars still drive the offense and the crease still leaks, the summer board writes itself. Edmonton has to look at every possible answer in net.

Wallstedt is not some mystery project anymore. He played 35 regular-season games for Minnesota and went 18-4 with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.

He also got real playoff work. Wallstedt appeared in 7 postseason games and put up a .903 save percentage, which matters for a young goalie already getting exposed to spring pressure.

That is why this is more than fan fantasy. Edmonton would not be chasing only upside here. It would be chasing a goalie who has already shown NHL traction.

The Oilers may be preparing a stunning move in goal after major leak

The Oilers finished with 93 points, which is not a disaster in most markets. In Edmonton, with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, it is nowhere near enough.

Bowman has been the Oilers' general manager since July 24, 2024, and this is the kind of problem that can define a GM fast. If he believes the crease capped the team, he has to act.

Minnesota's side is what makes this interesting. Wallstedt was their busiest goalie in 2025-26, while Filip Gustavsson played only 1 regular-season game according to the Wild team stats page.

So if the Wild are even discussing Wallstedt, Edmonton should not sit back and admire the idea. The Oilers should call.

That does not mean the price would be soft. Young goalies with Wallstedt's track record do not come cheap, and Minnesota would know exactly how desperate Edmonton looks in net.

Still, this is the sort of gamble the Oilers should be open to. They do not need another temporary patch. They need a goalie move with teeth.
