Connor Hellebuyck says vaccine decision felt very forced
Speaking with Winnipeg Jets reporters on Thursday, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made it clear he wasn't a huge fan of how much pressure he faced in order to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
"I'm not anti-vax by any means," said the star goaltender. "But I'd like to have that decision for myself. It felt very forced on me. I had just gotten COVID and gotten over it, and then I had to get the vax. Which made me feel like I had COVID all over again."
The 28-year-old was diagnosed with COVID on August 20, and while he wasn't hit as hard as some individuals, it certainly affected him.
"It was right around time when I started feeling camp-ready," he explained. "And I was really excited about where the summer was heading. And then I got it and it set me back two weeks. My symptoms were a very bad headache, really bad fatigue. It felt like I couldn't really move a whole lot."
Some were quick to point out that given the fact he contracted COVID in late August, he had plenty of time to get vaccinated beforehand. Regardless of that, he now has both shots and will be good to go for the 2021-22 season. That is great news for the Jets as he has been one of the leagues best goaltenders for a number of years now and will continue to be moving forward.
