There is good news and very bad news for Evander Kane of the San Jose Sharks. In a news release, the NHL states it has concluded its investigation into allegations of gambling on NHL games and games he played in and has found no wrongdoing.

"The investigation uncovered no evidence to corroborate Ms. Kane's accusations that Mr. Kane bet or otherwise participated in gambling on NHL games, and no evidence to corroborate the allegations that Mr. Kane 'threw' games or did not put forward his best effort to help the Sharks win games. To the contrary, the evidence raises doubts about the veracity of the allegations."

"While Mr. Kane denied the accusations, our findings are not based on these denials but instead on other evidence uncovered during the investigation."

However, the league says it is now opening an investigation into Kane for another two reasons.

During the course of this investigation, however, two additional matters were brought to our attention which we feel require further investigation and study. Both allege potential wrongdoing by Mr. Kane, one involving serious accusations relating to his past behavior toward Ms. Kane and the other involving allegations of inappropriate behavior potentially jeopardizing the health and safety of Club members. These matters are being thoroughly investigated and the National Hockey League will have no further comment regarding their substance pending completion of that process."

In court documents filed this week, Kane's estranged wife Anna alleges physical and sexual assault at the hands of her husband.

"Evander forced me to perform oral sex on him by grabbing me by my hair, roughly twisting it around his hand and forcing my head onto his penis," the documents claim. "I was crying and Evander called me a 'pathetic loser and a stupid bitch'. A few days later, Evander forced me, against my will, to have sexual intercourse with him."

Anna Kane also alleged Kane got rough with her after smelling alcohol on her breath.

"Evander smelled alcohol on my breath from the wine I had with the other wives at dinner. When we got back to our hotel room, Evander began screaming at me and punching me on the upper side of my head above the hair line. Evander grabbed my blouse forcefully and pushed me into the wall of the room, slapping me across my face. Evander was screaming at me and threatened to hurt me even worse if I 'disobeyed' him and had any drinks without him."

As for the "inappropriate behavior potentially jeopardizing the health and safety of Club members", the NHL has not said what this entails. Ultimately, any hope that Kane had that his personal troubles were going away has likely been squashed for the time being. With training camps set to open this week, you now have to wonder in Kane will be participating with his team.
