After weeks of speculation, former San Jose Shark Marcus Sorensen has officially announced he has signed with Djurgarden of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). It's a four-year deal rumoured to be worth just under $2 million, which makes him one of the top-paid players in the league. Sorensen, a native of Sweden, told Telgenytt.se in his home country that he had his choice of contracts between the NHL, KHL, Sweden and Switzerland, but was drawn to the offer from his home country.

"Because I wanted to have fun again, feel the joy of hockey and that the family can move home and have some security," said Sorensen.

The 29-year-old, who was drafted by San Jose in the fourth round in 2010, spent his entire NHL career with the Sharks, appearing in 226 regular season games and 34 playoffs games. The winger managed 74 points in the regular season (31 G, 33 A) and another 12 (5 G, 7 A) in the playoffs.

Sorensen said he had been in contact with Djurgarden since the beginning of August and insisted it was not an easy decision, adding he waited until now to officially make up his mind.
