The Jack Eichel situation in Buffalo has been a hotly discussed topic over the past few months with many having anticipated a deal being done long ago, even prior to the opening of free agency on July 28th. Still, here we sit on August 22nd with no resolution and it appears as though Eichel will now miss the start of the 2021-22 regular season.

Eichel, 24, along with his agents Peter Fish and Peter Donatelli have reached the point of maximum frustration with the Sabres. None of them had expected that a resolution would have taken them so deep into the summer and, with Eichel still adamant about undergoing Artificial Disc Replacement surgery, and the Sabres' reluctance to pull the trigger on a deal involving the young franchise center, it isn't going to be long now before this one really gets messy.

Eichel missing the start of the season is not likely something that any teams who are interested in acquiring the elite forward should be concerned about, given the pedigree that Eichel brings with him. The fact that he is signed for 5 more seasons and locked up throughout his entire prime means that the Sabres GM Kevyn Adams' asking price is not likely to move much, if at all.

Per The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, there are still several teams in the mix for Eichel's services, including the Ducks, Rangers, Golden Knights, Blue Jackets and Flames. Pagnotta also believes some other teams may have put feelers out on Eichel as well, to see where the asking price currently sits.

There are several teams who will reportedly allow Eichel to proceed with his preferred surgery should they win the Eichel sweepstakes.
