It's been another busy off-season for Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin. He went out into the free agent market and added Mike Hoffman, Cédric Paquette, Mathieu Perreault, Chris Wideman, along with 2021 Stanley Cup champion David Savard.

Savard will play a big role on the Canadiens blueline with the absence of captain Shea Weber, who will miss the entire season with multiple injuries. The St-Hyacinthe, Quebec native believes the Canadiens will challenge for and potentially win the Stanley Cup this coming season.

"We're going to try to bring it back (to Montreal), that's the plan for next year," Savard said to NHL.com. "We're all planning to return to the final and to win it."

"I liked the way the Canadiens played against us in the final. They have several veterans who've already won the Cup," he added. "I'm going to try to bring my own baggage and make it an even better team." "I'm looking forward to putting on the skates and playing a first game at Bell Centre, it will be nice to be closer to my family and my friends."

The 30-year-old spent the beginning of the season with the Columbus Blue Jackets before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning around the deadline in April. In 54 games between Columbus and Tampa Bay, Savard had six points (1G, 5A), 24 penalty minutes, and was a -27. He added five assists in 20 playoff games to help the Lightning win their second consecutive Stanley Cup, and third in franchise history.
