QMJHL team invites female goaltender Eve Gascon to training camp
Netminder Eve Gascon is embarking on another journey in her short, yet remarkable hockey career so far. Gascon, 18, has been invited to the training camp of the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, which gets underway Monday.
"It is an honor for us that Eve has agreed to participate in the camp," said general manager and head coach Louis Robitaille. "She has shown in the past that she can fight at any level. Her pedigree is amazing. She will have the chance to demonstrate all her know-how during the camp."
Gascon has already committed to joining the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs women's ice hockey program in 2022 after finishing her studies at the Collège Français in Longueuil. It will be the first time in her career so far that she's played for an all-women's team. She had previously received an invite to training camp for Phénix du Collège Esther-Blondin, where she posted the best stats of any goaltender in attendance and earned a full-time spot on the team's roster, becoming the first female to play full-time in the boys' AAA midget league in Québec.
Gascon represented Canada at the 2020 IIHF World Women's U18 Championship, playing in four of five games, including the championship final. Canada lost to Team USA to win the silver medal.
