As NHL players prepare to return to the Olympics in 2022, COVID-19 seems to be back on the rise, which could cause some problems for the NHL and its players.

According to insider Larry Brooks, NHLPA has told players that the NHL will not pay for any COVID-19 insurance at the Olympics or the Olympics Qualifiers. The league believes that it is on the players if they contract COVID-19 while playing in the Olympics, so if they miss time, they will not be paid for the NHL games they miss.

Along with this the PA has also presented IIHF with the cost of insurance, but has been told international federations will also refuse to pay. So at this point, players are being strongly advised to not participate in Olympic qualifying events.

This is a huge development for both fans and players that were ecstatic to see NHL players return for the Olympics. It seems that COVID-19 could hinder yet another exciting event in sports.
