Fresh off making his Vancouver Canucks debit, newly acquired Filip Chytil spoke with the media for the first time and discussed how he was truly feeling.
The Vancouver Canucks new additions shone in their first game, with a standout performance courtesy of Filip Chytil in a big, big manner.
The three new additions, Chytil, Drew O'Connor, and Marcus Pettersson, played in their first Canucks' game and showed a lot of potential in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
The focal point return in the J.T. Miller swap, Chytil showed confidence and cool and was one of Vancouver's most deadly offensive threats in a big, big manner.
Chytil said it meant a lot to him making his Canucks debut
With confidence, Chytil handled the puck well, played smart, and with a clutch, go-ahead, third-period marker, he electrified Rogers Arena. The post-game interview showed how much it mattered to him.
«There were some players in front of me and even some guys behind me trying to steal the puck,» explained Chytil. «I just thought there was not an open lane to shoot right away, so I was holding it as long as I could, and I'm happy it went in.»
«It meant a lot to me. In the moment, there were so many emotions in my head. I want to build on that, keep working hard every day, and be even better than today.»
«I was very happy that I got that opportunity to be [out] there,» continued Chytil.
The 25-year-old's strong performance earned him a vote of confidence from head coach Rick Tocchet and saw him sent out first in overtime.
Not only did Tocchet reward him with an overtime opportunity, but post-game, he publicly credited him with a strong performance.
«Really good. Controlled the play, wanted the puck, off the rush. Obviously, he's a guy that can make some playsbig goal for us so it was a good debut for him.»
- Rick Tocchet
Meanwhile, Miller, in a two-game stint with the New York Rangers, earned four points, but Chytil's performance showed Canucks' faithful a reassuring sign of life.
With continued performances like this, he could make himself a top-six center for years to come for the Canucks.
