The Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson was furious with the officials after an on-ice distraction led to a goal last night against the Edmonton Oilers.

Currently leading the Metropolitan Division with 69 points and a 32-10-5 record, the Capitals were in Edmonton to face the Oilers, who were without Connor McDavid for the first game of his controversial three-game suspension for his dirty cross-check on Connor Garland.

The Capitals ended up winning 3 to 2, despite the Oilers fans' attempts at making the Caps' lives harder.

Indeed, five minutes into the third period, a fan threw nachos on the ice, causing the Caps' goalie Logan Thompson to get distracted and allowing the Oilers' second goal of the game.

Watch Corey Perry's goal here:

The goalie offered insights on what went down:

"I've never seen that before. Obviously, I've got to play to the whistle. That one's on me."

The Capitals' head coach Spencer Carbery also opened up on that weird incident, turning the situation into a funny moment. He asked if they saved the nachos and if they could get the nachos in the locker room.

In his own words:

"I don't think I've ever seen a nachos-on-the-ice National Hockey League game. Did they save them? Maybe we can bring them into the locker room."

Thompson has a point. He should've played until the whistle, even if some people said refs should've stopped the play when nachos were thrown on the ice.

However, the rule states that the play should be stopped only if the object thrown on the ice interferes with the action:

"Rule 63.5 - Objects Thrown on the Ice During Play:

In the event that objects are thrown on the ice that interfere with the progress of the game, the Referee shall blow the whistle and stop the play and the puck shall be faced-off at a face-off spot in the zone nearest to the spot where play is stopped."

Thompson has been among the best goalies in the league this season. After 27 games, the 27-year-old has 22 wins, with a 2.09 GAA and a .925 SV%.
