One of the greatest legends in the game of baseball and a famous player turned broadcaster has sadly passed away at the age of 90.
The Milwaukee Brewers have shared some sad news this morning as they announced the passing of one of their most beloved former catchers, a legendary broadcaster, and true franchise icon. He died last night at the age of 90.
Bob Uecker's memory will live on
The team reacted with a reflective and extensive statement to Bob Uecker's memory, reflecting what it feels like across the game.
Today we take on the heaviest of burdens. Today, we say goodbye to our beloved friend, Bob Uecker.
Ueck was the light of the Brewers, the soundtrack of our summers, the laughter in our hearts, and his passing is a profound loss. He was the heart and soul of Wisconsin and a dear friend. Bob loved people; his presence warmed every room and he had a way of welcoming all of us into his world as if we were lifelong friends.
Saying goodbye to Bob shakes us all. He was so much more than a Milwaukee Brewers icon. He was a national treasure. Bob entertained us with his words and storytelling, so it is no surprise that his passing now leaves us at a loss for our own words.
There is no describing the impact Ueck had on so many, and no words for how much he was loved. We are left with a giant void in our hearts, but also remember the laughter and joy he brought to our lives.
- Milwaukee Brewers
Today is a tough day for baseball fans everywhere. It's hard to think of Brewers baseball without his voice after having heard it for an astonishing 54 years. Still, his warmth and humor transcended Milwaukee.
For Uecker, baseball was home, the place to which he kept coming back. He has spent more than five decades with the Brewers, immortalized in two statues outside the stadium of the team he served.
He deservedly went to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003 to join the pantheon of those most loved in both the world of baseball and the world of entertainment.
People who know nothing about baseball remember his humorous appearances on 'The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson', his sidesplitting performance as announcer Harry Doyle in the 'Major League movies, and his six-year stint on the sitcom 'Mr. Belvedere'.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Bob's family and friends. May he rest in peace.
