Olli Jokinen Goes Viral For Profanity-Filled Emotional Speech to His Struggling SHL Team
Former NHL star Olli Jokinen went viral today after he gave a powerful speech to his struggling SHL team.
Olli Jokinen was a bona fide superstar in the NHL putting up 750 points in over 1200 games played after he was drafted 3rd overall by the LA Kings in the 1997 draft.
He spent 17 years in the league and appeared in games for 10 different clubs, most notably the Florida Panthers where he played 567 regular-season games.
Now he is a head coach in the SHL for Timra IK. The team has been struggling lately leading him to let out his frustration on them.
He called out his players in a passionate and profanity-laden speech after a loss on Tuesday.
As his speech went on he got progressively angrier and more energized as he continued his desperate plea to get his players to put in their best effort on a nightly basis.
He specifically noted how the team is slipping in the standings and yet none of the players seem to care about it.
He emphasized how his players are simply going through the motions because it is their job, but they aren't playing with the same passion and enthusiasm as they should be.
After all, it is a blessing to play hockey for a living and everyone on that team knows that.
Perhaps they have been taking that fact for granted.
It will be interesting to see how Jokinen's team responds to this speech.
Will it have any impact on their play? Will they at least show some compete? If not, could Jokinen's job be on the line?
We will just have to see how the season plays out to know for sure.
