Young Flames Star Connor Zary Suffers Gruesome Injury After Hit to the Knee

In a terrifying turn of events, Calgary's young star forward Connor Zary suffered a gruesome-looking injury during Tuesday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Connor Zary has played competitive hockey for several years, making his mark in the WHL with the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL.

After he posted 38 goals and 86 points in 57 games during his 2019-20 season, the Calgary Flames selected him 24th overall in that year's NHL Entry Draft.

Zary spent a few more years developing before joining the NHL lineup for 63 games in the 2023-24 season, recording 22 total points, or 2.1 for every hour of play.

Zary has been well on his way to a similar production rate, yet after Tuesday night's game against Anaheim, he might have trouble playing up to speed.

During the second period, Zary was in control of the puck when Ducks defenseman Drew Helleson hit him knee-to-knee, bending Zary's leg into a dangerous-looking position.

Helleson received a five-minute major for the hit, but the situation for Zary and Calgary could be even worse.

There have not been any official updates on his condition, but many analysts believe it is best to hope his injury is not as bad as it looked.

Despite the tough loss of a top player about halfway into the game, Jonathan Huberdeau brought in the overtime win 3-2.

For many Calgary fans, however, this victory will ultimately be overshadowed by Zary's questionable status.

The Calgary Flames are scheduled to play against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night, which given the circumstances, may be too soon for the 23-year-old forward.

Hopefully, whatever his status will be, Zary can return to the lineup before the season dries beyond repair for the Calgary Flames.
