John Tortorella Furious With Referees on the Bench After Embarrassing Call On the Ice

During last night's game between the Flyers and Red Wings, on-ice officials initially called a penalty before taking it back, leaving John Tortorella furious.

A lot of debate was created due to a controversial play in a hockey game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Detroit Red Wings last night.

Before all of the controversy began, the first moment came courtesy of Owen Tippett, who scored with a perfectly executed goal. Owen Tippett has been one of those up-and-coming sensations in the NHL.

With the skill and consistency that he has shown, he is slowly becoming an absolute dream to watch for any hockey fan out there, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

The second moment of the game was much more contentious as, with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation and the Flyers trailing by just a goal, the referee's arm shot into the air to set up what should have been the equalizing power play. Instead, an incredibly rare sight was seen in the rescinding of the call.

Predictably, Flyers head coach John Tortorella was hot on the bench. He should have been, as the overturned call deprived the Flyers of a chance to try and make a game of it.

The Flyers wouldn't recover from there and lost 6-4 to the Red Wings. For good measure, to add insult to injury, the red-hot rookie Matvei Michkov couldn't find the scoresheet for the third consecutive game.

While Tippett's goal was a highlight-reel marker, it wasn't enough to spin a positive tone on a chippy night that ended in defeat.
