Vancouver Canucks Place Massive Defenseman on the Trade Block
The Vancouver Canucks have placed a massive defenseman Vincent Desharnais on the trade block, according to Elliotte Friedman.
On Thursday night, the Vancouver Canucks beat the Florida Panthers fair and square with a 4-0 score.
The team might be sitting at the 4th rank in the Pacific Division, but they have a lot of momentum for a team without their number one goalie Thatcher Demko.
When he returns to the lineup, the team will be at a whole other level and could keep doing some real damage in the NHL.
If they do as they did in the previous season, where they add a lot of talent to their roster ahead of the trade deadline, they could be even better by the start of the playoffs.
A new development suggests the team is now looking to part ways with an asset that could generate an interesting return: defenseman Vincent Desharnais.
Unfortunately for him, things haven't been working out too well in Vancouver. He signed a two-year, $2 million AAV contract with the Canucks last summer, but hasn't been able to find his rhythm within the team's system.
In 17 games this season, he scored two points and has a -4 rating.
Here's what Friedman wrote in the latest written edition of 32 Thoughts:
"The Canucks are interesting. There's a little bit of, "Let's see what we look like now that Thatcher Demko and J.T. Miller are back." But it's in Jim Rutherford's DNA to be on the trade prowl. Makes it tougher to predict what they are going to do. And they make calls."
Many teams could be interested in the defenseman for obvious reasons: he's 6-foot-7 and has great mobility for his size.
Desharnais will definitely be one of the players to follow closely in the weeks leading to March 7th's trade deadline.
