Major League Baseball has made some positive changes as of late, but this latest one from Commissioner Rob Manfred is one that has faced immense criticism.

In the last few years, Major League Baseball have made some great rule changes, with the biggest of all being their pitch clock, bringing games that go over 3 hours long down to 12%, down over 30% from five seasons ago.

In the first place, this wasn't a change that purists like, but after two years it has clearly been a positive for baseball, with fans now suggesting several other rule changes that the league can potentially make.

One of those has already been implemented in the minor leagues, with most fans and players looking to bring the strike zone challenge into play, with Commissioner Rob Manfred clearly against the idea.

Unfortunately, he has instead talked about the buzz surrounding another rule change, which is simply known as the 'golden at-bat rule'.

«There are a variety of (rule change ideas) that are being talked about out there,» Manfred said on the podcast. «One of them - there was a little buzz around it at an owners' meeting - was the idea of a Golden At-Bat.»

It's safe to say that on top of that, the fans are highly against the rule change as well along with many players.

The Golden At-Bat rule is a simple (but idiotic) one, where one time per game, a team can decide to use whichever hitter they want in a certain spot, and while there are changes that can be made that keep the sanctity of the game in tact, this is just ridiculous.

«The more we see things, the less impact they have. The Trout-Ohtani thing (the final at-bat in the 2023 WBC Championship) was outstanding because you rarely see it. You don't see Halley's Comet every night.» Joe Maddon

Ultimately, it's unlikely that the rule will come into play this season, and while it may one day, it's safe to say that it's a terrible rule change that will be nothing but dreadful for Major League Baseball.
