J.T. Miller has been away from the Canucks for personal reasons, and now Patrik Allvin has opened up on the tough time Miller is going through.

After an incredible campaign a year ago, the Vancouver Canucks look to go further in 2024/25, but early in the year they've been dealing with plenty of absences, including J.T. Miller.

While players like Brock Boeser have been dealing with physical injuries, Miller recently took a personal leave of absence from the team, with the Canucks officially calling it indefinitely with very few details beyond that.

We've heard very little about the situation beyond this, but on Tuesday, General Manager Patrik Allvin finally addressed the situation, providing the best update he could on the circumstances.

«First and foremost, I'm very proud of J.T. seeking help,» Allvin said. «I don't know if he said it, but I believe that he's going to be a better person, better teammate and better hockey player when he returns. And we sure miss him; he's such an impactful hockey player. I think we have and the league has all the right support to help him.»

Unsurprisingly, given the fact that Allvin did not want to reveal too much of the reason behind Miller's absence, he simply praised the veteran forward, noting that he was proud of Miller for seeking help, signalling that this is likely a mental health related absence of sorts.

While Head Coach Rick Tocchet couldn't offer any more than that, he too shouted out Miller, telling reporters just how much the team and the coaching staff miss him.

«Listen, I miss the guy. But obviously there are things that are more important than hockey. He's a huge part of our team, and when a guy like that is not there, you notice.»

Ultimately, it's very unclear when Miller will return to the lineup, but at this point in time like Tocchet said, this is much bigger than hockey, and we hope that Miller can get back to 100% in body and mind and be back on the ice as soon as possible.
