The Rangers hosted the Ottawa Senators tonight for another regular-season matchup in the famous New York building. MSG is among the oldest buildings in the league and is certainly one of the more historic locations in all of New York City. Over the years it has seen many upgrades though, including the latest version of the scoreboard, which hangs over center ice. As the Rangers were defending in their own zone, K'Andre Miller accidentally sent a puck flying directly into the scoreboard, popping one of the panels out of place.
The broadcasters of the game as well as many fans watching joked that Miller could be fined the cost of the damages. It is a classic you break it you buy it kind of moment.
That being said, it would be a lot more serious if the panel actually fell out and onto the ice. That would have had the potential to seriously injure someone if it happened, but luckily it remained attached to the rest of the board via cables, leaving it dangling awkwardly as the game continued.
Luckily, this play did not result in a a delay in the game or in a penalty for Miller. Given how high he shot the puck, he very well could have taken a delay of game penalty if the scoreboard did not block the puck. The Rangers would go on to win the contest 2-1.
Notably, Rangers rookie Matt Rempe was not in the game after recently being sent down to the AHL. He has since been called back up, but head coach Peter Laviolette is probably happy with his decision to make the enforcer a healthy scratch tonight given how close the game was. After all, his season high in ice time is just 7:37 in what was a 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs. How much ice time would he have even gotten if he were out there tonight? Four minutes? Five? Regardless, the Rangers are starting the month off on the right foot.
