After a red-hot start to the season, the Utah Hockey Club struggled to maintain the rhythm and lost four straight games to the Ottawa Senators, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings, and San Jose Sharks. They were looking to bounce back yesterday against the Calgary Flames, which they did, with a 5-1 win for Olli Maata's first game with Utah since being traded from the Detroit Red Wings.
However, for the past two weeks, head coach Andre Tourigny decided to healthy scratch the forward Michael Carcone. After he was held pointless in the first three games of the season, Carcone was removed from the lineup and hasn't returned on the ice since.
A new report suggests that trade rumors are picking up.
Carcone, 28, was never drafted in the NHL, but against all odds, made it to the AHL in 2016 and joined the Arizona Coyotes in 2021. Since then, he has taken part in 107 NHL games with the team that became the Utah Hockey Club.
Last season, he tallied a career-high 21 goals in 74 games with the Coyotes. Management had big expectations for him coming in the 2024-25 season, but he couldn't reach them.
With one season left on his $775,000 AAV contract, NHL teams could be tempted to acquire him on the trade market ahead of the deadline. His offensive skills could bring a lot of depth to a team looking to make a long playoff run.
Stay tuned as we look forward to bringing the latest information about Carcone's situation in Utah.
