Barry Trotz addresses horrible start for the Nashville Predators: he is eyeing a big trade
Barry Trotz had an amazing off-season as GM of the Nashville Predators, signing Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei, but he is not done yet.
With the Predators currently sitting 30th in the NHL, with a 2, 5, and 0 record, the team is looking to get better, especially considering they added two elite wingers to their forward core. They have been forced to play Stamkos and Marchessault with players like Cole Smith, Tommy Novak, and Colton Sissons (per Moneypuck.com), which is far from ideal for a set of 60 and 40 goal scorers respectively, and it is clear they need a centre.
With this in mind, Barry Trotz, one of the most revered longtime head coaches in the NHL, and now general manager of the Predators, is ready to make some moves:
Know you love the rumours, but it is early. This is the 'we're-still-seeing-what-we've-got' phase. Predators GM Barry Trotz has the second-best hockey radio hit on The Game in Nashville. On Tuesday, he told hosts Willy Daunic, Derrick Mason and Adam Vingan, «No one is trading anyone right now. I would like to get a centre, but no one is giving their centremen away.»
Two toughest things to find: a stud defender and a top centre. No more zero in the win column after Tuesday night, where they opened with Colton Sissons between Jonathan Marchessault and Steven Stamkos.

Up until last night, the Nashville Predators were last in the NHL, but despite slowly starting to see progress, for a team who spent a whopping $106.5 million on their three big free-agent additions, (a four year deal worth $32 million for former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Stamkos), a five year deal worth $27.5 million for Vegas Golden Knights Stanley Cup Champion Marchessault, and a seven-year $49 million deal for Brady Skjei, they are eyeing a deal for a centre. It won't be an easy move, although the Montreal Canadiens could be an ideal trading partner as they have recently been linked to Predators defenseman Dante Fabbro.
We will see if Barry Trotz is able to pull off a move to upgrade Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault's centre, but for now, the team just has to hope for the best.
