More terrible news for the Florida Panthers: Matthew Tkachuk will not play tonight

The Florida Panthers have announced that they will be without another one of their major stars tonight as Matthew Tkachuk has been ruled out against the Buffalo Sabres.

After winning the Stanley Cup last season the Florida Panthers were hoping to kick off this season by establishing themselves as a top team again. So far that task has been made a lot more difficult. A couple of nights ago Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov suffered an injury. A report this morning has confirmed that Barkov will now be out for 2-3 weeks.

While this news was of course frustrating for the Florida Panthers and their fans the timeline is much more optimistic than many originally thought. When Barkov was initially injured some thought he would be missing for months.

With the relatively good news on Aleksander Barkov also comes bad news on another star. The Florida Panthers also announced that they will be without Matthew Tkachuk tonight against the Buffalo Sabres.

A report from Buffalo Sabres reporters Mike Harrington and Lance Lysowski have confirmed that Florida Panthers superstar Matthew Tkachuk will also miss tonight's game. According to the reports Matthew Tkachuk is dealing with an illness that will now force him to miss game action.

Head coach Paul Maurice and the Florida Panthers will also go with backup goaltender Spencer Knight in the net. This game will now largely rest on the shoulders of secondary stars like Sam Reinhart and Sam Bennett to step up as well as young center Anton Lundell.

Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk were both key members of the Florida Panthers Stanley Cup winning team. Now the Panthers will have to find a way to survive without them.
