A clickbait scam has been an ongoing problem on social media X lately and former NHL legend Wayne Gretzky has just become the latest victim.
Clickbait ads on social media are designed to capture users' attention with sensational or misleading headlines. These ads often use eye-catching images or provocative questions to lure people into clicking, only to lead them to content that doesn't deliver on the promise of the headline. This is done to drive user traffic to websites for advertising revenue. These ads can range from exaggerated health claims to misleading news stories, and they often circulate widely due to their viral nature.
Wayne Gretzky has been the latest victim on social media X, formerly known as Twitter. A recent post circulating on X shows Wayne Gretzky being carried away by law enforcement, with his hands handcuffed behind his back.
As you can see in the post above, there are a bunch of misleading headlines that are completely fake, and the picture itself is also fake. Wayne Gretzky has not been arrested and there is no such scandal. It's just fake advertising to get users to click on the post to see why Wayne Gretzky got arrested, even though he did not.
There's a lot of backlash to this, and users are starting to wonder whether Elon Musk is losing a lot of money, as it appears he is taking desperate measures in an attempt to generate income.
It will be interesting to see if any class action lawsuits are initiated due to the defamation of people's characters.
Wayne Gretzky is an absolute legend in the NHL and holds the top spot in numerous league categories. He's played in 1,487 career NHL games, and scored 894 goals and 1,963 assists for an outstanding 2,857 points.
