Sometimes, professional sports careers just don't work out, and that's unfortunately the case for a talented goaltender that now shifts his career aspirations.
Back in 2015, the Montreal Canadiens had high hopes for young goaltender Michael McNiven, but unfortunately things just didn't work out well, as he would go on to play seven seasons in North America and overseas, but has now officially called it quits. McNiven made the announcement recently when he was appointed as an assistant with the Powell River Kings of the BCHL, with the 27-year old outlining a positive goal for his coaching role.
"My goal is to create an environment where our players have the best possible chance to succeed both mentally and physically." says McNiven "Having played in all three levels of professional hockey in North America, I am well versed in the demands and challenges our team will face. I am committed to bringing my utmost effort and expertise to win a Fred Page Cup."
McNiven would play just one NHL game over his career, but has a fantastic attitude and was reportedly well liked by all those he shared a locker room with, making his future in coaching incredibly bright. It's unclear what his aspirations are beyond this stint in the BCHL, but at 27-years old he's got plenty of experience under his belt but plenty of time to grow, so now we will see if he can progress and potentially make an impact behind the bench in the NHL one day.
