Former Maple Leaf Ryan O'Reilly tried to convince Predators GM Barry Trotz to acquire Mitch Marner via trade before his mayhem of free agent signings.

Before the groundbreaking signings of Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault for the Nashville Predators, Ryan O'Reilly made a special request to GM Barry Trotz in an attempt to acquire Leafs star forward Mitch Marner before their busy and franchise changing July 1st.

«Prior to the Predators spending a whack of dough on free agents (Steven) Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault and Brady Skjei, eq-Leaf Ryan O'Reilly did his very best to convince GM Barry Trotz to make a push and trade for Mitch Marner,» Kypreos said.

Barry Trotz didn't trade for him, however he changed the look of the Predators drastically with the signings of Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos and Conn Smythe winner from the Vegas Golden Knights Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjej.

A few months ago, a Mitch Marner trade seemed on the horizon, but after the NHL draft where the trade talks pick up the most, and leaving him yet to be moved, I have a hard time believing he will start the 2024-25 season on a new NHL team.
